I was in such panic and felt terrified. The lobby suddenly seemed big, spacious, people walking around me like mute images. Someone even asked me: »Are you okay?« My inner critic was mocking, »Haha, well done, Gašper! You always screw it up. Look at you, you're so pitiful.«My heart was beating and I was having cramps in my stomach. For a moment I wished I would be wiped off the face of the Earth.

Sometimes it is so hard for me to take five minutes out of my busy schedule. When I think of taking time for myself, I feel the pressure (there is never enough time!), duty and fear of uncompleted tasks. My brain can find dozens of excuses why not to take a break: There is no quiet place to go, it is too far. What if someone calls me during my break? What if I miss an important client? I am in a hurry; I have to write this e-mail… Blah blah blah.
I have learned that these are only thoughts and not necessarily a real situation. What I always do is to stop and ask myself a simple question: Is my work truly that important that I cannot take five minutes of »me time«? Asking this question, it is easier for me to leave the sense of duty behind and MAKE A DECISION to take a break. Five minutes is enough to calm down, focus and gain a new energy which makes me feel more productive. After that I am feeling happy and grateful for showing myself love and care.

One minute of gratitude

For me it is so comfortably easy to worry and feel like a poor boy crying over fears instead of finding a solution and do something. It exhausts me and it takes my life from me. So I decided to give it a try and switch my worries for thankful thoughts. The soothing thoughts of gratitude create a light peaceful feeling in my stomach and chest. At first, it wasn't easy to find things to be grateful for. So I asked myself: What if I wouldn't have all these things that I have now? I quickly became aware of how lucky I am to have them. Yes, I am grateful for the inspiring book that I am reading, I am grateful for my ears so I can enjoy music, I am grateful for my apartment where I feel safe and warm… As soon as the feeling of gratitude fills my heart I become much less worried. It helps me to switch my mood instantly. I see a bigger picture of myself and feel more powered. My worries became a starting point for creating the solutions and do specific actions to achieve the life that I want. But it all starts with a simple act: One minute of grateful thoughts. At some days I do it dozen times a day. And it worked out every time. I am grateful that I show love to myself with paying attention to my mood so I can be sure that I will persistently nurture myself even 100x times a day if needed.
